Controller's Comments We have identified that 5 early starters on a range of courses were adversely affected by controls 120 and 121 being transposed. This error was quickly rectified and we are not aware of it affecting other runners. I must apologise for this error - if that is what it was. We had shortly before heard third hand that someone driving on the road had seen a "farmer" moving a control. We were unable to identify where this alleged mischief occurred. It's hard to believe that a "farmer" would be near 121, let alone mischievious enough to swap two controls, although anyone moving them would be in sight of the road. All other controls were in the correct place with the correct number.
The only runners affected on Courses 5 and 7 had the fastest runs on each course in any case - so I presume they will not want the courses voided! On Course 6 Chloe Haines was badly affected but has very generously decided not to lodge a complaint. Rachel Farmworth on the same course may not have noticed the incorrect code. She punched at the correct site and her split time looks on par for the rest of her run. Rachel, let us know if this is assessment is wrong. For now course 6 stands. On Course 11 Duncan Birtwhistle was badly affected and had been leading leading JM4 at the previous control. Control 121 was the last control on this course. As a consequence I have decided to end the JM4 class on this course at the penultimate control. No other runner on this course was affected so the JW4 result will still be based on the entire course.
If anyone else was adversely affected by this error please contact the organiser, Phil Headford or myself.
May I thank Geoff for providing such entertaining courses and Phil for providing the weather to complement them. Finally thanks to Tim Moon for unravelling the affected runners from the splits.
